Meet the Farmer event to bring together business, farms, tourism officials

Local farmers will showcase their products for local businesses, tourism officials and restaurants Monday evening at the first ever "Meet the Farmer" event at Piggy Pats BBQ in Washington Mills.

Nearly 20 farmers will present their local cheese, beef, pork, chicken, eggs, lamb, dairy, yogurt, and produce. They'll talk about where and how their food is processed and distributed.

It's a growing national and local trend. Consumers want to know where their food comes from.

The Meet the Farmer event is a way to familiarize businesses with the origin of the products they use and serve.

Piggy Pats owner Pat McCann says he feels a responsibility to inform his customers about where the food he serves comes from, for example, how the farmers care for their animals, their land, their produce, and their process.

Some of the businesses and officials who have expressed interest in buying local and who will attend Monday's event include:
