North Country woman plans run for Congress to represent 23rd District

By WKTV News

WATERTOWN, N.Y. (WKTV) - A Sackets Harbor woman is running for Congress. Republican Kellie Greene says she is the "only principled conservative" running in New York's 23rd Congressional District.

Greene is an Oswego native who lives in Sackets Harbor. She made the announcement on Wednesday in Watertown with a room full of supporters. A republican nomination would place Greene in a race against Democrat Incumbent Congressman Bill Owens, who currently represents the 23rd District.

"With unemployment unacceptably high above eight percent and so many of our fellow New Yorkers struggling through this Obama economy, we can no longer afford a Congressman and President who heaps burdens on our families and children and a imminent government seizure of healthcare that will further cripple our citizens and cost more jobs." Greene said, "It is absolutely time for principled conservative leadership, for our district and I aim to serve that need."

Greene was born and raised in Oswego. She holds several degrees including an A.S. in Accounting and Business Administration from Bay Path College, a B.S. in Logistics Management from Syracuse University and an MBA in International Business from Rochester Institute of Technology. She has studied and worked abroad in Japan and Singapore and has established herself in the areas of international trade, shipping and logistics.
