Section of I-81 north of Syracuse is closed again

By The Associated Press

WATERTOWN, N.Y. (AP) - A 50-mile section of Interstate 81 north of Syracuse has been closed again as lake-effect storms continue to cause treacherous driving conditions.

The state Department of Transportation closed the highway early Wednesday morning from Brewerton, just north of Syracuse, to Watertown in Jefferson County. I-81 from Watertown to the Canadian border is open again after being shut down when the weather worsened on Tuesday.

The Brewerton-to-Watertown section of the highway was closed Monday night, but a portion of that stretch had reopened Tuesday night.

Oswego County areas the highway runs through are expected to get up to another two feet of snow by Thursday.
