Sherrill residents are grandparents of Sandy Hook shooting victim

SHERRILL, N.Y. (WKTV) - NEWSChannel 2 has learned that an Oneida County family is directly affected by Friday's mass shooting in Connecticut at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

According to Mayor William Vineall, the grandparents of a six-year-old boy victim live in the City of Sherrill. The boy's mother grew up in Sherrill and later moved to Newtown, Connecticut.

The victim has been identified as 6-year-old James Mattioli. His mother is Cynthia Mattioli (Radley), a Sherrill native. The boys grandparents, Jack and Kathy Radley, are Sherrill residents.

The smallest city in the state of New York is dealing with this tragedy and preparing to help the Radley's get through their time of grief. Their family friend Robert Comis said, "It's extremely difficult. Our entire country is going through a tough time because of this tragedy, but when its one of your own without our own community, it's certainly more hurtful."

Mayor Vineall has reached out to the family and said the city is ready to help them when they call for it.
