State matches federal minimum wage proposal
ALBANY, N.Y. (WKTV) - The New York State Assembly now wants the minimum wage legislation to reflect $9 an hour to conform to President Obama's State of the Union proposal.
State Speaker Sheldon Silver made the announcement on Thursday.
The minimum wage in New York has increased only ten cents in the last six years. It was raised with the federal minimum wage from $7.15 to $7.25 an hour in 2009.
In the governor's State of the State Address, he proposed hiking it to $8.75 an hour.
