NORTH NORWICH, N.Y. (WKTV) - A search is underway in Chenango County for a missing 13 year old in North Norwich. Officials with the Chenango County Sheriff's Department say the teenager had been out hunting with his father earlier Sunday.

The father contacted officials around 6:00 P.M. Sunday and said he had been looking for his son for about 3 hours in a wooded area. A search is underway in the Whaupaunaucau State Forest in North Norwich.

The Chenango County Sheriff's Department is being assisted by the New York State Forest Rangers, NYS Department of Environmental Conservation, the Madison County Search Team and the Onondaga County Search Team- as well as the Chenango County Search Team.

Lifenet Helicopter is helping out from above.

All of the teams were assembling at the Norwich Fire Department, but officials have since moved the location to the DCMO BOCES on County Road 32 in Norwich.

The general public is asked NOT to go into the woods to attempt to assist. But anyone living in the area is asked to call the Sheriff's Office if someone knocks on their door. Anyone with information should contact the Sheriff's Office at (607) 334-2000, Ext. 1.

Officials say the father and son are from outside the area but are familiar with the area they were hunting in.
