Two New York State Troopers injured in Town of Paris crash

Sauquoit, N.Y. (WKTV) - The New York State Police in Marcy are investigating a two-car collision that occurred, Sunday, at approximately 12:20 a.m.

Initial reports revealed that James D. Welch, 22, was driving westbound on Holman City Rd., in the Town of Paris, when he failed to stop for a stop sign at the intersection of Holman City Rd/ST-8, and struck a New York State Police patrol vehicle that was on ST-8 headed south.

Troopers Joseph Tobiasz and Joseph Leworthy of State Police Marcy, along with Welch, were injured as a result of the crash and transported to St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Utica.

Jamie Tran, 18, a passenger in Welch's vehicle was not injured in the collision.

Welch currently remains hospitalized in stable condition, while both Troopers have been discharged.

Charges are pending against Welch, and alcohol appears to be a factor.
