NYRI To Officially Withdraw Power Line Request:
New York State Regional Interconnect representatives are expected to officially withdraw their application to build power lines through Central New York. On Friday, officials with NYRI informed a judge during hearings with the Public Service Commission their intent to pull out of the project. The judge then ordering they put the request in writing by today. If all goes as planned, today's official withdrawal will mark an end, at least for now, of a nearly three year battle between NYRI and opponents in Central New York.
Earthquake Strikes Central Italy:
Buildings have collapsed and at least 20 people have been killed in a powerful earthquake that struck before dawn in central Italy. Rescue crews are trying to reach trapped people. The quake was centered about 70 miles northeast of Rome.
New Details Emerge in Binghamton Rampage:
New details were released overnight about the victims killed in that Binghamton refugee center. Officials say they hailed from eight different countries. A candlelight vigil was held Sunday night. Some 1,400 people attended. Police still aren't sure why the gunman opened fire, killing 13 and then himself.
Ilion Woman Arrested:
An Ilion woman is facing charges accused of stealing. 27-year old Melissa Devaul is charged with petit larceny. Police claim she stole property from another person at a local establishment.
the details surrounding the arrest are unclear. A news release states Devaul is due back in court on Thursday.
Opening Day Activities in Cooperstown:
Baseball's best are celebrating opening day at the hall of fame in Cooperstown today. Fans are able to watch live games all while checking out famous opening day memorabilia. There's also trivia contests. There's already a postponement. The Chicago White Sox have called off today's opener with the Kansas City Royals because of cold and snow in the windy city.
