High Winds Bring Down Wires All Over Central New York:
Wind gusts are turning area roads into obstacle courses. large trees are scattered across the road. Same story in New Hartford, also South Utica, where road crews are very busy trying to keep up with the fallen branches littering the roadways. National Grid reports more than 6,000 people in Oneida County are without power, around 2,300 of them in Utica.
Man Rushed to Hospital Following Collision with Tree:
A car wound up flipped over in a ditch off Limberlost Road in Kirkland this morning. Emergency crews rushed to get the driver out of the car and into a waiting ambulance. No word yet on the driver's identity or condition.
Miles Sentenced in Sexual Abuse Case:
A Herkimer man is off to prison for the next 10 years...for sexually abusing a girl. Today in Herkimer Frank miles was sentenced to state prison for sexually abusing a girl for three years. Miles has been in trouble with the law before. He spent about 10 years in prison for murder and robbery convictions in 1983. He was released in 2004.
Arrest Made in Stolen Skeleton Case:
A Herkimer man is under arrest following a four month investigation. Noah Shear is accused of taking the human skeleton from the Herkimer BOCES Nursing Program in Ilion back in February. He's charged with grand larceny. At this point only the skull has been recovered. Ilion Police tell us more arrests are possible.
Utica Looking at Stimulus Money:
The City of Utica is looking at about $4 million in federal stimulus money that it knows it will get. Some of the money will go to lead abatement, job programs and energy efficiency. Utica officials hope to get all applications for stimulus money by next week.
