Couple Files Claim Notice Against Utica:
A Utica couple has filed a notice of claim against the City of Utica, its police department and several officers. The claim stems from a fight at a city bar where several police officers were present. The couple alleges the wife of a Utica Police officer assaulted one of them back on September 6th. They allege her constitutional rights were violated by several police officers who stood by as she was assaulted. Right now, this couple has a year and 90 days from the incident to file an actual lawsuit.
Five School Budgets Defeated:
Although more than 30 area school budgets passed last night. It wasn't a good night for five local school districts. Voters defeated school budgets in the districts of Mohawk, Madison, Owen D. Young, Oriskany and Worcester. School officials will now have to go back to the drawing board.
Partnership Plan on Committee's Agenda:
A potential road block has been averted in the Oneida County Partnership Plan. Right now the plan is on the Ways and Means Committee's agenda for next Wednesday. Legislation was drawn up that would send the partnership plan back to the Oneida County Executive. That motion was voted down by the committee members. Now they will discuss it again next week.
Man Arrested For Allegedly Passing Fake Check:
A Utica man is facing several charges. This, after police say he used a fake check to pay for a computer. Utica Police say 22 year-old Sergey Avetsiuk allegedly used his computer to create a check from a non-existent bank account. They say he then passed it to a UPS driver for a COD payment for a computer he bought on Craigslist. He has been arraigned and released.
UC & Faxton St. Luke's Teaming Up on Power Plant:
It's lights out at Utica College. This, as the college teams up with Faxton St. Luke's Healthcare to work on a co-generation power plant. It's a $16 million project UC says will reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and improve services for patients and students alike. The power will be back on in time for summer classes.
