2 of 3 Oneida County "swine flu" tests come back negative

(WKTV) - Two of the three suspected swine flu cases in Oneida County have come back from testing with a negative result. This means those individuals did not contract the swine flu, according to Oneida County Health Department Spokesperson Ken Fanelli.

The third sample is not expected to come back until Saturday, Fanelli said.

A health department official in Otsego County tells NEWSChannel 2 that a suspected case has arisen after an individual returned recently from Mexico. The person has an acute respiratory illness, which is a common symptom of swine flu, and that tests are under way to confirm or rule out swine flu. The official says those results could be back as early as Thursday night.

Herkimer County has also joined those locally who have suspected cases of swine flu. The health official there tells NEWSChannel 2 that a woman who went to Northern California just inside the past seven-day window when swine flu cases started popping up, has been tested. Those results could come back as soon as Thursday night.

In Lewis County there are still four suspected cases of swine flu. Results on those tests are not back yet.
