WEST CANADA VALLEY, NY (WKTV) - 41 students at the West Canada Valley elementary school could possibly have Swine Flu. All of these students stayed home or were sent home, according to the school district.

The school district reports that they suspect most of these cases to be the H1N1 virus based on information from the New York State Department of Health.

Officials from the Department of Health said that although these students have not been tested, it should be assumed that they are suffering from H1N1.

District Superintendent Ken Slentz said that proactive measures including continued communication with Herkimer County Public Health, communication with parents, additional sanitizing of classrooms and high-frequency touch areas and other measures suggested by the CDC and the Department of Health will be in place by Wednesday, if not already in effect.
