Businesses catering to children taking extra precautions in light of H1N1 concerns

NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. (WKTV) - Officials with the Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta say the pediatric death toll from the swine flu pandemic will be extensive compared to seasonal flu.

This raises concerns and presents challenges for businesses whose clientele are almost exclusively less than four feet tall.

Both Chuck E. Cheese and Rough & Tumble, in New Hartford, cater to the same group that the H1N1 virus targets: young people.

The owner of indoor playground Rough & Tumble says she and her staff have been extremely thorough about cleaning since they opened their doors in March.

"We're staying to the same procedures that we started when we opened in March which is to clean equipment daily using a bio-based disinfectant," says owner Martha Hanno.

The facility has also installed a hand sanitizer dispenser and, to put parents at ease, they hand each of them an informational sheet letting them know about cleaning procedures.

Chuck E. Cheese's has upgraded their cleaning procedures since the swine flu pandemic struck. They now sanitize play surfaces, tables, chairs and bathrooms throughout the day. They've also rolled out Purell hand sanitizer dispensers at all their locations.
