Apple Tree planted in honor of Earth Day

By By MARISSA FALITICO

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Planet Earth got a little help Wednesday from Utica College students.

The college is among 20 partners that planted a Dwarf Crispin Apple Tree Wednesday in honor of Earth Day and in recognition of the Green Apple Festival. The crispy green apples are of Japanese origin, and are good for eating or baking.

Guests were invited to learn about the college's efforts to go green, followed by the tree planting in front of north and south halls. Other organizations, such as Mohawk Valley EDGE, also planted trees as part of the creative core, a platform for Central New York businesses, institutions and organizations to join together to raise awareness.

The event was coordinated by the central upstate regional alliance and the green team.
