New Hartford receives national recognition for being a Tree City USA
NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. (WKTV) - The Village of New Hartford received national recognition Tuesday as being a Tree City USA for the past 27 years.
Tree City USA is a program that provides direction, technical assistance, public attention, and national recognition for urban and community forestry programs in thousands of towns and cities across the country. The many benefits of being a tree city include creating a framework for action, education, a positive public image, and citizen pride. "We have special rules about the types of trees that we use on our streets because we all know they are a very healthy community we are interested in...not only for ourselves, but for our children," said Janet Durr, Village of New Hartford Clerk. To qualify for Tree City USA, a town or city must meet four standards established by the Arbor Day Foundation and the National Association of State Foresters. These standards were established to ensure that every qualifying community would have a viable tree management plan and program. Most Popular |
