Oriskany business awarded for efforts in energy efficiencyORISKANY, N.Y. (WKTV) - A local business is awarded for going green before it was the "in thing" to do. Sumax, in Oriskany is the proud recipient of the P2 Achievement Award. The New York State Pollution Prevention Institute was in town Wednesday for the honors. Sumax manufacturers motorcycle fenders and saddle bags, among other things - using a closed mold design. It's totally emission-free, something not many companies in the U.S. can say that. The process has also increased production five-times what it is. To the owner, it just made sense to go green. "Regulations weren't a concern in the beginning," said Kirk Vanscoten, owner of Sumax. "It was just the right thing to do. You have employees...you have to breathe clean air to be healthy....so they show up to work. Once you have children and grandchildren, you want to do something for the environment." This is the first time the P2 Achievement Award was given out. Most Popular |
