Jones Elementary students help out at Utica Zoo

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - In celebration of the upcoming Earth Day holiday, youngsters got involved at many locations, including the Utica Zoo. The Genesis Group of the Mohawk Valley held its annual 'Green and Clean' event on Saturday morning.

More than 100 students and their parents from H.R. Jones Elementary School were in Utica on their weekend to spruce up the zoo.

A teacher from the school, Michelle Dilberto, said, "Our magnet theme is environmental studies. So in showing the kids in how important it is to take care of our environment, we also try to show them how important it is to take care of their community as well. It just seemed that it was a perfect idea to pair up with the Utica Zoo, because it is such an important part of our community. We're so lucky to have the zoo here."

This is the 5th straight year kids from Jones Elementary volunteered at the zoo.
