Open house at Oriskany Falls farm to show benefits of wind energy

By KATRINA SMITH

ORISKANY FALLS, N.Y. (WKTV) - A local farm went the extra mile to reduce its carbon footprint, and on Friday, they opened their doors to show other farmers how to do the same.

Fuess Meadows Organic Dairy in Oriskany Falls recently installed a ten kilowatt wind energy system for $75,000, but expects to earn that money back in just 5 to 7 years.

Farm Owner Kevin Fuess says he's cut his energy bill by 2/3 since January, adding that a bill that was once more than $300 a month has been rolled back closer to the $100 mark.

He says the best part, aside from the financial incentives and grants is the ecological benefit.

"It's clean, and I'd rather see that than power lines come through our state,' said Fuess.
