Park clean-up part of local Earth Day projects

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Local students are supporting Earth Day by cleaning up their neighborhood park. BOCES Utica Access students and The Cornhill Neighborhood Association participated in The Great American Clean-Up Project Friday.

The group picked up trash and cleaned up Chancellor Park. Jackie Carll is a Case Manager at BOCES. Carell says this kind of event teaches students to give back and help their neighborhoods.

"We're working with students who are... young adults who {have had} multiple barriers to overcome," Carell says. "I think it's a great thing for the community to see that these are students who are willing and eager to help out."

The group wanted to collect one million pieces of trash, but even if they don't reach their goal, student Ayuen Nyoul, says she still feels that they have made a difference. She said, "Cleaning the park for children is going to help us and its going to teach them something better."
