HERKIMER, N.Y. - With Earth Day coming up this Sunday, many residents will be out in full force doing their part to keep their neighborhoods beautiful.

One group in Herkimer has already performed a major cleanup effort this month, on Saturday, April 14.

Nearly 45 community members joined together on Main Street in the Village of Herkimer that morning to participate in the cleanup that is part of the national Keep American Beautiful Campaign. The group of volunteers consisted of members from Herkimer Now, local high school students, young children, area professionals, students at Herkimer County Community College, and residents of all ages.

Together, the group collected 42 bags of garbage, which was then transported out of Main Street by an employee of the Department of Public Works, who also volunteered his services.

The next cleanup effort by Herkimer Now is slated for the fall season, and anyone interested in obtaining more information may contact or find information online at

HCCC students will be hosting their own cleanup on Monday, April 23 at 2 p.m. In Brookwood Park.
