VERONA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Oneida Indian Nation Representative Ray Halbritter and a group of tribal leaders from across the country met Monday afternoon at the White House.

The purpose of the meeting, which lasted for about three hours, according to a press release from the Nation, was for the White House to consult on a government-to-government basis with tribal leaders to improve communications.

“A group of leaders of sovereign tribal governments were asked to provide our input to the administration on a host of issues important to American Indians —from the infringement of sovereignty through efforts to impose taxes to resolution of land claims. We were pleased to have been asked to provide our input, and we were assured that the White House will engage in ongoing consultation," Halbritter said.
