County Executive Picente appoints Directors of Probation and Youth Bureau

Evan White

UTICA - Oneida County may soon have two new leaders who could have a large impact on the youth of the community.

County Executive Anthony Picente appointed David Tomidy as County Probation Director and named Robert Roth Director of the Oneida County Youth Bureau.

Roth has worked within the department of social services and was an assistant basketball coach for Colgate University and Hamilton College.

Tomidy has served as acting director of the county's Probation Department since December 2006.

"I'm more of a hands-on type of person," Roth said. "I'll be out in the community...I'll be involved in the boards...anything I can be involved with."

"My goal is to get the probation department out of the office and into the community so we can work with law enforcement and other county and private sector agencies," Tomidy said.

To finalize his appointment, Tomidy will have to take a civil service test in February. Both appointments will go before the county's board of legislators.
