Mayor Roefaro meets with Attorney General Cuomo to discuss plans for Utica

Joleen Ferris

UTICA - Utica Mayor David Roefaro yesterday made his first trip to Albany for the governor's state of the state address. Before he left Albany, he also visited the governor's mansion and met with the state's highest law enforcement official.

It was an eye opening, productive, trip to Albany, Roefaro said. Roefaro said he'd have liked to meet longer with Andrew Cuomo, but he's grateful the attorney general was able to give him any time out of his chaotic schedule.

While the two didn't solve all of Utica's crime problems in the brief conversation, Roefaro says Cuomo committed to learn more, first-hand.

"We talked a little bit about upstate," Roefaro said. "No specifics, but he did say he's going to come here very shortly and he's going to talk to me about initiatives we've been working on together for the betterment of Utica."

Toefaro says he talks frequently with alot of high-ranking state democrats, including Governor Spitzer's staff, Senator Chuck Schumer and even New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

He's hopeful those close relationships will bring good things to the city of Utica. No date's been set for the attorney general's trip to the Utica area but Mayor Roefaro's confident we'll see him in the near future.
