President sends budget to congress - electronically - for first time ever
President Bush has sent his budget to congress - electronically. The president says it's the first presidential budget to be filed that way, and will save money. The $3.1 trillion "e-document" supports higher military spending and protects the president's tax cuts. It also trims roughly $196 billion from Medicare and Medicaid over the next five years, and projects a surplus in four years. Bush says the budget will keep the economy growing. The president is making the entire budget available on the website, www.budget.gov instead of printing 3,000 copies for Congress and the media as in years past. Democrats have criticized the budget, saying it uses "flawed math" to project the surplus in 2012. They also joked that the president cut out the printed copies because he ran out of red ink. |
