Will New York State Budget be completed on time?

By JOLEEN FERRIS

There was no happy hour in Albany this week! At least not for the legislators who are examining the 800 million dollars in cuts Governor Paterson has made to his former boss's budget proposal and how the cuts affect the people in their districts. The big question is will all this be done by Tuesday, the budget deadline?

Firday in Albany, the legislature is restoring some of Governor Paterson's cuts, specifically to healthcare and higher education. The governor proposed some tap and community college aid cuts; those might be restored. Also, Utica and Rome received a 7% increase in state aid from Spitzer's original budget proposal. Now, that might be cut down to a 5% hike so still more than they thought they would be getting but these people have a $124 billion budget to balance.

We say might because the senate and assembly are still working on all of this. None of it is finalized yet.
