Arcuri hoping for town hall meeting, not three-ring circus

By By JOLEEN FERRIS

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - The last time Congressman Michael Arcuri held a public discussion in Utica, a man in the audience began shouting questions, and insults, at House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, who was at Union Station talking about high speed rail.

Arcuri is hoping there will not be a repeat performance at Wednesday's town hall meeting at Mohawk Valley Community College about the President's proposed health care plan.

"I understand people get passionate, but there's a big difference between being passionate about what you believe and being disrespectful," said Arcuri.

In addition, Arcuri says there's no need for people to shout about his position on the plan....because he doesn't have one-yet.

"I keep telling people, hey look, now's the time to let me know. I have not made a decision. I want to hear it, so this is the perfect opportunity for people to tell me."

Arcuri, along with MVCC officials, is expecting a large crowd. College leaders are expecting the IT Center to be filled to capacity - about 450 people.

Both have been receiving phone calls about the meeting. Arcuri says the callers have been around 50-50 in favor of and against the plan.
