Lead abatement in South Utica topic of third ward campaigningUTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - As the campaign season heats up, so is the focus on public health in South Utica. The race for common council in South Utica takes a new turn Tuesday. Democrat Anne Sullivan, who is challenging incumbent Republican Rocco Giruzzi in the Third Ward says her opponent isn't doing enough to rid the area of lead. Sullivan said she wants city grant funding to be dedicated to low and moderate income families who have lead problems in South Utica neighborhoods. Sullivan said much of the lead abatement emphasis recently has centered around Cornhill and West Utica. "I believe its incumbent upon the district representative to work with the administration and ensure that South Utica gets their fair share of any city, state, or federal funds out there," Sullivan said. "I fight for South Utica and Utica everyday," said Giruzzi. "I work with everyone because I am a team player and I fight for South Utica and Utica every day." |
