UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Republican candidate Dede Scozzafava suspended her campaign Saturday, and then on Sunday shocked many by supporting the democratic candidate, Bill Owens, over conservative Doug Hoffman, whom the republican party has now endorsed.

According to 24th district Congressman Michael Arcuri, this shows how moderate upstate New York is.

"I think you are seeing what I think is incredible about Central New York," Congressman Arcuri said. "Whether you are republican or democrat, it seems to be moderate. You see Dede Scozzafava turn around and endorse a democrat for the seat after she pulled out and I think that shows again that it is a moderate district, whether you are a democrat or republican."

Scozzafava's name will remain on the ballot because of her late decision.

A Siena College poll released Monday has conservative Doug Hoffman leading Owens by five points. But the number of undecided voters has grown to 18%.
