Daniel LaBella says he will not run again for Oneida County Sheriff

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - After a 2006 attempt, and much talk that he would try again for the seat of Oneida County Sheriff, one-time candidate Daniel LaBella said he will not run again.

Within hours of announcing that he would not seek a fifth term as Oneida County Sheriff, the field of candidates interested in replacing Sheriff Dan Middaugh had swelled to five.

Utica Public Safety Commissioner Daniel LaBella - one of the names tossed around as possibly running for the seat - announced Tuesday that he will not be a candidate for Oneida County Sheriff this year.

LaBella stated, "I have found great enjoyment working everyday with the dedicated men and women of our police and fire department in providing public safety for our community. I look forward to our continuous success in public safety."

Others who have said they are interested in the position include Assemblyman David Townsend, New York Mills Mayor and Whitesboro Police Officer Robert Maciol, Rome Public Safety Commissioner James Masucci, and former Utica Public Safety Commissioner Phil Taurisano.

David Rodriguez, a Corrections Deputy with the Oneida County Sheriff's Department is also interested in running for the position. Rodriguez has 16 years total service, and has been with the department full time since 1999.

Rodriguez said he has already submitted hid resume to Oneida County Democratic Chairman Bill Barry to be considered for the party's endorsement.
