Polls open in Central New York on Super Tuesday

Pat Bailey

UTICA - Polls here in New York State opened at noon and will stay open until 9 tonight.

Officials at the Oneida County Board of Elections expected between 40 to 50 percent of those who are registered to come out today.

The election workers at General Herkimer School say about _____ people have made their way out to vote by news time.

Most voters we spoke with said they knew when they woke up today who they were going to vote for, others said they were still undecided even heading to the polls.

In both cases, voters said there were certain issues on their mind and those issues were going to sway them or have swayed them one way or another.

“I basically voted for the candidate who will help us with our issues with the war in Iraq, here at home like gas prices and people not being able to heat their homes.” Olivia Moore

“I’m worried about the war, I want our soldiers to come home. My husband was in the service for 23 years, so I know what war is. I’m from Germany so i really know what war is and I want them to come home”. Ruth Kaczynski

“Immigration, getting people in here who deserve to be here, they have to go through the right paper work. And we need somebody who is really looking out for us as far as that goes, that's important.” Katelynn Eaton

If you follow the national races closely you are aware that most people are projecting a win in New York for Democrat Hillary Clinton and Republican John McCain.

Most voters we talked with said those projections did not hold them back from coming out and voting, saying its their civil duty to do so, and who knows maybe there will be an upset tonight.
