Politics is alive among the minds of youth.

WHITESBORO - Decision 2008 is generating a lot of interest in eligible voters, especially the 18-25 year-old bracket.

It's an age group that is known for having the weakest turnout. But so far, they seem to be coming out strong.

Talking politics is no longer reserved for those over the age of 25. Some students from Whitesboro High School say they have opinions and a lot to say.

"I think politics is probably the most important factor of being a citizen of the U.S.," said Andrew Roberts, a senior at Whitesboro HIgh.

They realize what happens in November could have a big impact on their future.

"As I'm going into college, especially, I'm thinking a lot about the economy and how that's going to affect me in the long run when I get a job eventually," said Chris McNicholl, also a senior.

Young voters turned out in big numbers at the Iowa caucus and New Hampshire Primary. These students hope for the same in New York.

"I'm really hoping that everyone from my school and everyone around this area will definitely come out and vote," said Bernadette Wormuth, another senior.

On the ballot, there seems to be some clear front-runners when it comes to nabbing the youth vote.

"I think its definitely been Obama for sure," McNicholl said.

"Ron Paul is having an easy time getting people just because he listens," said Roberts. "And I think Obama. just because he's 46, and he's like Kennedy and Clinton, where he's young enough where people identify with him."

Others are not doing quite as well.

"Probably Huckabee because I probably really don't know that much about him," Wormuth said.

"I don't think Hillary Clinton has been doing a very good job reaching the younger voters," McNicholl said. "She's kind of got that upper crusty higher class feel to her and isn't really attracting as much of the youth vote."

All the excitement surrounding the election has one of them considering a shot at the oval office.

"I would really I know this sounds corny but I would really like to be president," Roberts said.

You probably won't see him on the ballot for quite sometime. But you will see him and other teens exercising their right to vote this year.

And in a tight race like this - that's something the candidates can't ignore.
