Decision 2008

NBC News is projecting that John McCain wins the states of Texas, Rhode Island, Vermont and Ohio. The total delegates received from these wins will put the Arizona Senator over the number needed to clinch the nomination for President. He surpassed the magic number of 1,191 GOP delegates with the wins on Tuesday night.

The other nomination opponent, former Governor Mike Huckabee has dropped out of the race in a speech to supporters Tuesday night. He said he called the Senator on the telephone to offer his congratulations and offer his commitment to his campaign in order to unite the party and the country. He called Senator McCain an "honorable man" who ran an "honorable campaign."

Republican party sources are saying that John McCain will go to the White House on Wednesday to get an official support announcement from President George W. Bush. The official Republican nod will not come until early September with the Republican National Convention in Minneapolis-St. Paul.

Hillary Clinton was projected to win both Ohio and Rhode Island, two wins that are crucial to her campaign which has seemed to have been slowly losing its base. This win interrupts her opponent, Barack Obama's winning streak that stretched all the way back Super Tuesday. In a speech to a vibrant crown in Columbus, Ohio, Senator Clinton said, "For everyone here in Ohio and across America who’s been counted out and refused to be knocked out, and for everyone who has stumbled but stood right back up, and for everyone who works hard and never gives up, this one is for you... together, we’re going to make history"

Barack Obama will win Vermont after the votes are officially counted as the race in Texas was too close to call Tuesday night. He congratulated Senator Clinton on her Ohio victory while remaining confident about the results to come in Texas.
