James Street residents holding out hope for recovery of pets

By By EMMA WRIGHT

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - People who lived at 102 James Street lost just about everything in last week's fire.

But two of those people are holding out hope they'll still be able to rescue the three things that mean the most to them.

Gail Baker and Pilar Azis lived at 102 James Street for eight years with their five cats. When fire ripped through the building last weekend, the two didn't have time to get all the cats to safety.

Two of the cats have been found, but Gail and Pilar say they feel like they've lost three members of their family.

The cats left Gail and Pilar with a big veterinarian bill - about $800. The Stevens-Swan Humane Society stepped in to help.

"We're trying to offer support and awareness," said Jerry Kraus a spokesman for the humane society.

The Humane Society has set up a fund asking for donations. If you want to donate you can send a check to: Stevens-Swan Humane Society of Oneida County, Inc.; 5664 Horatio Street; Utica, N.Y. 13502
