UTICA - Come January, the new Utica Common Council will hold a a 6-3 majority.

Democrat Frank Vescera ousted Republican incumbent Edward Hill in the 1st Ward.

Democrat James Zecca keeps his 2nd ward seat. Former Councilors-at-Large Republican Rocco Giruzzi and Democrat Joan Scalise ran unopposed for the 3rd and 4th Ward seats.

Incumbent Democrat Bill Phillips and Incumbent Republican Teresa Wojnas held on to their council seats.

Frank Meola and Lorraine Arcuri, both Democrats, and former Council President Patrick Donovan captured the council-at-large seats.

"When the final numbers are in and they're all tallied up, then I will accept what the voters have said," said Mello Tesa, one of the council presidential candidates. "But at this point it's just, it's very...it's just too close."

"We had done some polling on the absentees and i'm running very strong," said Bill Morehouse, another presidential candidates. "So I expect to win the absentees outright."

Morehouse says he's already talking to Mayor-elect Roefaro, also a Democrat, about their plans for transition.
