Timeline of NYRI Events

  • March 30, 2006 - NYRI publicly announces project plans to erect transmission lines through Upstate New York

  • May 2006 - First public meetings are held, including Oneida County, police have to be called to some
  • May 31, 2006 - NYRI submits article VII power line application with the New York state Public Service Commission, the state's power line review authority

  • June 2006- STOP NYRI, CARI and other opposition groups form

  • October 2006 - Governor George Pataki signs a bill, at SUNYIT, stating the power company can not take land through eminent domain.

  • February 2007 - NYRI sued Pataki over the bill.

  • October 2008 - November 2008 NYRI president Chris Thompson and others meet with thousands of Upstate New Yorkers for the final time to discuss their plans and answer questions.

  • April 3, 2009 - NYRI tells the Public Service Commission they will withdraw their application.
