UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - While New York Regional Interconnect appears to have pulled the plug on its power line project, the process isn't over just yet.

At some point Monday, NYRI is expected to submit a letter to formally withdraw its application for a 190 mile transmission line, and some still aren't convinced the power struggle is over.

An anti-NYRI group says its not sure if NYRI will seek other options to gain approval for the project, but things don't look good for the company.

This, after NYRI announced last week it would suspend its plans.

According to NYRI, plans to start all over depend on the regulatory climate.

Right now, they say regulators are discouraging such transmission lines, likely ending their plan.

Congressman Michael Arcuri says he's not convinced NYRI is done with upstate.

"I consider this a battle," Congressman Arcuri said. "And we won the battle, but we clearly didn't win the war yet. We want to stay vigilant and stay on top of this."

To do that, Arcuri says he plans to let the PSC know why many in the Mohawk Valley don't want this project to pass in addition to spreading that message with federal regulators.

According to the PSC, NYRI cannot bypass the state and gain federal approval for the project.

Based on NYRI's Friday statement, which says the company remains committed to the powerline and was "suspending its participation with the PSC," it makes sense that some remain wary of how this may continue.
