NYRI requests re-hearing for power line project

(WKTV) - Just several weeks after officially withdrawing their application for a power line project that would run from Marcy to Orange County, New York Regional Interconnect is back again.

On April 29, the company requested a re-hearing on the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission's order that essentially ended the life of NYRI's transmission project.

Congressman Michael Arcuri submitted a letter to FERC urging them not to consider NYRI's proposal further, and that doing so after they had withdrawn their application would sidestep the true intent of the legislation.

"NYRI has had a history of trying to sidestep the process just when you think they're pulling out in one place, they move in another," Arcuri said. "That's why we haven't stopped the process of continuing to fight on a local and national level."

When NYRI withdrew its proposal to the New York State Public Service Commission for the power line, it cited the original ruling by FERC against the matter as their reasoning for withdrawal.

Arcuri says the key to continuing the fight against NYRI is to stay ever vigilant.
