VERONA - Nearly a quarter million dollars was handed out this afternoon by the Upstate New York Empowerment Fund and the Oneida Indian Nation.

The money was given to charitable organizations from this past Turning Stone Resort Championship. A total of 113 charities from Herkimer County to Onondaga County literally cashed in on this past PGA event.

Oneida Nation CEO Ray Halbritter said the event could be very lucrative to charities, and $241,000 later, it was.

Here is how the money was distributed:

*The 113 charities were made up of 58 groups from Onondaga County
*39 from Oneida County and 1 from Herkimer County.

*The remaining 10 were from Madison and Cortland Counties.

*The top 14 charities raised a total of $105,000.

The highest raising individual charity was the Carol Baldwin Breast Cancer Research Fund from Onondaga County, which raised more than $25,000.

Nation CEO Ray Halbritter says he is surprised by how much money was given back to the community today.

"I didn't expect it to be that high," Halbritter said. "But what a wonderful story about people in this region coming together to make it happen. To create those success to the people who need it, and we are delighted to be apart of it."

Also recognized today was the top 10 highest earning charities, and making the list was two from Oneida County.
