Finishing touches put on Atunyote course before Turning Stone Championship

Dave Dellecese

VERNON - Officials at the Atunyote Golf Club in Vernon had just weeks to prepare the course for last year's B.C. Open.

Today they put the finishing touches on the course.

The course has been ready for a week now in preparation for the tournament. A task that's far from simple, it requires more than 70 people working day and night to keep the course in tip-top condition.

The finished product took a year to alter the course and get it in shape for PGA pla - a grueling process requiring two large crews working early and late in the day to make things perfect.

"My crew arrives at 4 a.m. they pretty much get the greens mowed, the tee's mowed, on the player walkways...remove dew off the golf course and we're pretty much done by 7:30," said Matt Falvo, Golf Club Superintendent.

New features and narrow fairways are just a few things crews helped take care of in the weeks and months leading up to the Turning Stone Resort Championship.

Falvo says the extra time he was given to preapre the course helped.

"Having until September to go through and make sure it was perfect," Falvo began. "I think the course is in the best shape its ever been."

With the course the exact shape that Falvo wants it, the only hope is that the weather will cooperate throught the end of the week and the tournament.
