By JOLEEN FERRIS

UTICA - The man originally charged with manslaughter in the death of his elderly mother pleaded guilty today to a lesser crime.

David Auchmoody was originally charged with manslaughter in the death of his 89-year-old mother, Edith Auchmoody.

If convicted of that at trial, David Auchmoody would have faced up to 15 years in prison. Instead, he will spend one and a third years in prison in exchange for his guilty plea today to criminally homicide.

Funeral home employees who removed Edith Auchmoody's body from her Whitestown home alerted police after seeing the condition of her body.

David Auchmoody will be sentenced for his mother's death May 9th in Oneida County Court.
