Teen accused of grandfather's murder pleads insanity

By JOLEEN FERRIS

UTICA - The Clinton teen accused of his grandfather's murder entered a plea, but he will not be going to prison - instead to a psychiatric facility.

Kevin Adams entered a plea Thursday of "not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect" in the death of his grandfather, Edward Bogan.

Prosecutors said there is evidence that Adams was on the verge of a nervous breakdown or psychotic episode the night before the murder. Several doctors have diagnosed him as paranoid schizophrenic.

Through tears today, Adams gave the court insight into the delusions that lead him to kill his grandfather.

"During that time, I thought I was Jesus and decided that if i killed my grandfather, I would be imprisoned and therefore would be unable to be crucified," Adams said today in court.

Kevin Adams will remain in a psychiatric facility until the judge determines, based on doctor's assessments, that he's not a danger to himself or anyone else.
