UTICA - Two of four young men charged in a fatal fight in Westmoreland last year were sentenced in Oneida County Court Thursday morning.

Cory Adam pleaded guilty to first degree manslaughter and John Almanza pleaded guilty to gang assault. The two were involved in a fight at a house party last summer.

Carl Hill died a few days after the fight; witnesses said he was beaten with a cue ball in a sock. One young man was killed, but a lot of young lives were ruined as a result of this house party fight.

That was made all too clear when Jessica Hernandez stood up from the court gallery and began crying and yelling at two of the men charged in Carl Hill's death. She has two young children with Carl Hill. As Cory Adam apologized to her at his sentencing today, Hernandez began to yell and the two had an emotional, heated exchange.

"I regret everything that happened that night," Adam said. "I wish the situation was different. I wish that Carl was still here."

"If you didn't hit him, he'd still be here," Hernandez said. "He was trying to get up and you hit him, you killed him! He would have been here if you just let him go!"

John Almanza will spend the next five years in prison for gang assault for his guilty plea to first-degree manslaughter. Cory Adam will spend the next 15 years in prison.

Friday - the final chapter - the last person charged in this case, Bradley Stanistreet, will hear his sentence. He took a plea halfway through his trial and is expected to spend 10 years in prison.
