Woman charged for attempted poisoning after landlord / tenant dispute

BROOKFIELD - According to Madison County Undersheriff Doug Bailey, a 33 year old Town of Brookfield woman has been charged with felony assault after an investigation into allegations that the woman may have poisoned a 63 year old man.

Cathy Dote, 33, of Brookfield, was arrested at her residence on June 27 at around 12:10 a.m. She was charged with one count of second-degree assault.

Deputies allege that Dote intentionally caused physical injury or impairment to Brent Rogers, 63, also of Brookfield, on May 12, 2007 by administering without consent a drug, substance or preparation.

Deputies believe the incident stemmed from a landlord / tenant matter.

It was initially reported to deputies that Dote placed an unknown substance into the coffee of Rogers causing a brief and sudden illness. The remaining suspected tainted coffee and container were seized by deputies at that time and submitted to the New York State Police Crime Lab for analysis.

The Sheriff's Office recently received the final analysis and it has been determined that the coffee ingested by Rogers had been laced with a controlled substance identified as "Quetiapine." Brent reportedly became ill at the time from the side effects but was not hospitalized.

A warrant for the arrest of Dote was issued on June 21, 2008, charging Dote with assault.

Dote was arraigned before the Town of Brookfield Court and released on $1,000 cash; $2,500 bond bail pending her re-appearance at a later date.

Deputies were assisted by the office of the Madison County District Attorney.
