HERKIMER, N.Y. (WKTV) - The Herkimer Village Police Department has a new acting investigator.

Chief Joe Malone says it is related to the disappearance we first told you about last week, of an undisclosed amount of money from the evidence room at the Herkimer Police Department, but said he couldn't elaborate on how it was related.

Chief Malone simply said that Investigator Robert Risi is currently unavailable but would not say if the investigator had been suspended or is the subject of any investigation. Malone said that acting Investigator Jeffrey Crim could be made permanent.

Money was discovered missing from the Herkimer police department evidence room in late April.

Last week, the Herkimer County District Attorney said outside police agency had been asked to investigate what seemed like it could be an inside job at the Herkimer Police Department.

Herkimer County District Attorney John Crandall confirms that the major crimes unit from the New York State Police in Oneida is investigating the missing cash.
