ILION, N.Y. (WKTV) - Ilion Police say that a woman who was stabbed in her Ilion apartment early Wednesday morning was no stranger to her alleged attacker.

"It was domestic related," said Ilion Police Investigator Paul Rose. "They did have a relationship."

Investigator Rose was not at liberty to expand upon the nature of the relationship, as the investigation is still ongoing. However, Rose did emphasize that it was not a random act.

The 29 year old woman was in critical condition Wednesday following the overnight stabbing. Investigator Rose said the name of the female victim was not going to be released.

According to Ilion Police, around 12:50 a.m. On Wednesday, October 14th, officers arrived on the scene of Apartment D-1 at Remington Park apartments on Cottage Street, where they found the female stabbed several times.

The woman was immediately sent by Ilion Ambulance to St. Elizabeth Medical Center for treatment where she underwent surgery for internal injuries.

A Utica man - William Woods, 50, was located a short distance away with self-inflicted wounds and he was also sent to St. Elizabeth Medical Center.

He was arraigned in Village Court and sent to the Herkimer County Correctional Facility in lieu of no bail.

Ilion Police did not have any updates on the woman's condition as of Thursday morning, but said that they would need to speak with her in the course of their investigation.
