HERKIMER, N.Y. (WKTV) - A former Herkimer police officer accused of stealing several thousand dollars from the department's evidence room is headed to state prison after admitting taking the money.

Former Investigator Robert Risi pleaded guilty this afternoon in Herkimer County Court to a count of third degree grand larceny. In exchange for the plea, Risi will spend the next one to three years in state prison.

In addition, Risi will make approximately $15,800 restitution: $8733 from a Fastrac robbery which was being held in evidence by the Herkimer Police Department; $877 from a separate incident and roughly $6,200 from an audit of the police department, which revealed additional missing money from 15-20 other cases.

Risi will be sentenced January 21 in Herkimer County Court.
