Prison secretary accused of sexual relationship with inmates

MARCY, N.Y. (WKTV) - A Utica woman facing charges of contraband is accused of having a sexual relationship with inmates while she was working as a secretary at Midstate Correctional Facility in Marcy.

According to State Police, Amy Gerling, 32, of Utica, was charged with promoting prison contraband on October 13.

Gerling, who was employed as a secretary at the correctional facility, resigned on Wednesday, October 21.

State Police said the investigation revealed she had an unauthorized relationship with at least one inmate while she was employed there. During the relationship she gave one inmate a personal item which was considered contraband.

Gerling was issued an appearance ticket to be in Marcy Town Court on Tuesday, October 27. Details of that court appearance were not available.
