UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - An attempted traffic stop in the City of Utica lead police officers on a chase through the city.

Around 1:25 p.m. on Tuesday, Utica Police saw a Jeep Liberty driven by Jarell Edwards, 31, of Utica, go through a stop sign near the area of Plant Street and State Street. Police then attempted to stop the car on Oneida Street at Walker Street.

Edwards, with passenger LeSean Fantuazzi, refused to stop for officers and lead police on a vehicle pursuit throughout the city. The chase, involving numerous UPD officers and the Oneida County Drug Task Force, lasted several minutes. After the vehicle pursuit, both Edwards and Fantuazzi exited the vehicle, and ran on foot.

UPD Deputy Chief Mark Williams said Fantuazzi was found at 1429 Genesee Street, with a stun gun on his person. Edwards, the driver of the vehicle, was found quite a ways away at a house on 1138 Seymour Ave and arrested.

Deputy Chief Williams said Edwards did not have a driver's license, and was also on parole, which is why he did not originally pull over for police.

Edwards was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, parole violation, unlawfully fleeing the police, and numerous vehicle and traffic violations.

Fantuazzi was charged with criminal possession of a weapon for the stun gun.
