Convicted investigator to receive benefits and retirement incentives

By By JOLEEN FERRIS

HERKIMER, N.Y. (WKTV) - A former Herkimer Police Investigator who admitted gambling away more than $9,000 he stole from the department's evidence room is about to get a hefty lump sum of cash from the village.

Robert Risi, 42, pleaded guilty and will spend one to three years in prison for the crime.

Village officials said Risi put in for retirement before charges were filed or he pleaded guilty, and therefore he's entitled to retirement benefits.

That cash payment from the village is for $13,200 from accrued sick time, vacation and personal days and other benefits and retirement incentives.

In addition to that, Risi will receive roughly $29,000 a year in state pension benefits.

Risi reimbursed the village for the money he stole.
