Wesley Molina-Cirino returns to court today

Dave Dellecese

UTICA - The man accused of killing a Utica police officer last year moved one step closer to trial today.

Wesley Molina Cirino is accused of shooting Officer Tom Lindsey while the officer was conducting a traffic stop. Today, a judge set a date for hearings to determine whether statements Cirino allegedly made to police, and possibly some local jail inmates, will be allowed at trial.

The judge will also rule on physical evidence found in Cirino's Jay street apartment and review the search warrants used to go after the evidence.

Cirino is due back in Oneida County Court on December 4 for the first of those hearings. His trial will most likely not happen until after the first of the year.
